Entering the Unknown
When I began my internship at PREMIER as a Project Management Intern, I was like many college students—curious, motivated, and unsure of exactly where my interests would take me. I knew I was drawn to the construction field, but beyond that, I didn’t have a clear picture of which path within the industry I wanted to pursue.
A Platform for Growth
Joining PREMIER was a turning point. From day one, PREMIER provided more than just a summer internship—they offered a platform for exploration. I was exposed to different sides of the business that I hadn’t even considered coming out of college. That experience gave me the opportunity to grow both professionally and personally. I wasn’t just learning about construction; I was learning about myself and where I could see a future.
From Project Engineer to Preconstruction
After completing my internship, I was fortunate to come on full-time as a Project Engineer. In that role, I continued building on the skills I developed during my internship while gaining a deeper understanding of project execution and coordination. Over time, I discovered that my true interest was in the early stages of the construction process. That realization led me to where I am today: part of PREMIER’s Preconstruction team, working as an Estimator.
The Value of a Well-Rounded Experience
One of the most valuable parts of my journey has been the ability to experience both the field and the office operations up close. Being involved in multiple facets of the business helped me gain a comprehensive understanding of how our projects come together—and where I fit into that process.
Advice for Future Interns
For students considering a summer internship, my biggest piece of advice is this: find one that excites you, but also one that lets you explore. The right internship doesn’t just confirm what you already know—it opens your eyes to opportunities you hadn’t thought of before.
